BBQ Chicken!
Don't worry, this is not a recipe for one of our favourite summer activities!
Yesterday the weather was so lovely, we decided to have a BBQ. It was one of those disposable sort. The hens must have been interested in the activity (probably the smell) and came down the path from the main garden to join us on the patio.
The BBQ was resting low on some stone blocks and to my amazement one of the girls walked straight up to it and attempted to steal a sizzling hot sausage. I have heard of dogs doing this, but never chickens!
Luckily my husband came to the rescue with his work bench, just the right height to keep them at bay from nicking my burgers as well. They weren't put off though and stuck around for ages.
They had a good old nose around, even though there was little else to eat apart from our food.
I think they were hoping we may drop a few tasty morsels when I spotted them under the table.
Then they met a few garden friends before taking themselves back to the garden.
I acted quickly and shut the gate, just before I put on some corn on the cob on to cook.
I think they may have resorted to drastic measures in order to get their beaks on that!

Hi Diane,
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little story along with, as per usual, wonderful photos. Never a good idea for a chicken to get too close to a BBQ:-)
All the very best to you, Gary
